Tenney Family Crest

President's Message

By Roger Tenney

Thomas Tenney arrived in Rowley, MA in 1638

April 2009

Our 2009 Tenney Family Reunion will be upon us before we know it.  This year will be particularly special because we are finally going to place the headstone of our progenitor, Thomas Tenney at the Old Bradford Burial Ground.  This will be a very special occasion and should be a memorable event.

CALLING TENNEY FAMILY WITH WEB SITE EXPERIENCE!

As you all know we are still scouring the bushes for a new webmaster for the Tenney website!  We need someone in this family with the talent and ability to help us. With the reunion fast approaching this is even more urgent.   I have to believe that we have a younger Tenney out there who has the skill to help us in our hour of need!   This is crucial to the family reunion, as we are trying to involve allied family groups in this event, and to provide each of you the most up to date information on the reunion, on line.  It does us no good to direct someone to our site for information if we are not able to keep it current and relevant.  I cannot stress this urgent need enough, this is vital to our reunion’s success.  Please contact me if you are our talented cousin!

REUNION NOTES

I have to commend our cousin Barron Tenney and his committee in their efforts toward this dedication.  He almost daily has been prodding and cajoling all the key players in this effort in a way that I believe only Barron could.  We definitely have the right man “on the ground” for this effort in Haverhill

Debbie Montgomery has worked very hard in making all the arrangements for our stay in the Haverhill area and all the associated activity of our reunion.

There will be a reunion polo shirt available for this year’s most important event.  Debbie has included the sizing and pricing information in her information on the reunion.  We will have three colors available and these are a first in my memory for our reunions.

VOLUME ONE,  TENNEY FAMILY HISTORY

Our final volume of the Thomas Tenney updated genealogy, Volume One, is in the process of being printed and shipped to our merchandise manager, Gail Tenney.  A huge thanks you to Debbie Montgomery, Hal Tenney, our former merchandise manager, and to Gail as well.  This is a very time and labor intensive process and all three of these cousins have really stepped up to the plate to see this project through to completion.

CHARITABLE STATUS

Although we have not been successful to date in securing our charitable organization status, we are exploring the use of a twin incorporated entity to give us a 501 (c) 3 organization. Our original incorporation document remains the same, but is a 501 (c) 7, social organization.  The new incorporated entity will be set up with an educational purpose.  Our treasurer, Dick Tenney, Melanie Tenney and I will continue working on this so we can indeed finally have a charitable portion of the association to allow donations that can then be written off on one’s taxes.

MEMBERSHIP

Please talk to other family members and have them contact our membership co-chairs, Laura and Ken Bunting!  Membership is vital to the continued success of this family association.  It is vitally important for our efforts to preserve our TENNEY FAMILY heritage and to insure the successful continuance of this organization.  Della Tenney has donated money to the Edward Tenney Membership FAund and continues to support the association in our membership efforts.  There are a lot of us with our shared heritage out there, let’s all join in this cherished commonality!

THREE MONTHS

This is the amount of time we have remaining to complete our matching funds project for 2008-2009.  Our match this year was for the continued clean up of the Old Bradford Burial Ground.   There is still time to make the full match for this project complete and remember $500 donated results in $1,000 being available for this project.

ELECTION YEAR

This is year is our election for 2009 – 2011 for officers for the association.  Remember, we have the need for a Corresponding Secretary and the Web Master position is still vacant.  If you feel you want to do more for the association, this is a good way to contribute.  Make your vote count!

Ballot!
